Nagercoil is the capital of Kanyakumari District in Tamil Nadu and was part of Kerala until 1956. The district is blessed with mountains, rivers, valleys, hills and also places of cultural and historical importance.
Day 01
Meet and greet at Trivandrum airport and proceed to Nagercoil or meet and greet at Nagercoil railway station and proceed to the hotel. Refresh and by afternoon visit the famous Nagaraja Temple, which was once a Jain destination and from which the city derived its name. Visit St. Xavier’s Cathedral built in 1600 CE by St. Francis Xavier, a Spanish Jesuit missionary and then take a tour of the town. Back to the hotel and rest.
Day 02
After breakfast, proceed to the Thanumalayan Temple in Suchindram, an architectural spectacle erected in the sixteenth century with its huge seven storied pyramidal gopurams. The temple also has the famous seven pillars which emit sounds of different musical instruments when struck. The temple also boasts one of the tallest statues in India which stands at 22 feet and carved out of a single granite block. Now proceed to Kanyakumari and visit the 6th century Vattakottai Fort, Vivekananda Rock Memorial and Gandhi Mandapam. Get mesmerized by the enchanting sunset at Kanyakumari. Return to the hotel in Nagercoil.
Day 03
Start from Nagercoil and first stop is at the Padmanabhapuram Palace, nestled at the foot hills of Velimountains, a part of Western Ghats. The palace is built in Kerala style architecture and boasts unique mural paintings, which decorate the central hall. Therafter, proceed to Mathur hanging trough, the highest and longest in South Asia built over Pahrali River. From the Aqueduct, one can see a limitless terrain of greenery with Western Ghats in the background and river Pahreli flowing below. Next stop is the astounding Pechiparai dam built over the Kodayarriver and surrounded by the hills of the Western Ghats. Our next stop is the world famous Jain temple, located in the hillocks of Thirucharanam and situated on the banks of Thamraparni River. Back to Nagercoil and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 04
Relax and after breakfast, proceed to Udayagiri Fort, built in the 18th century and about 34 kms from Nagercoil. The grave of the Dutch General De Lennoy, one of the most trusted generals of the king is also in the fort. Our next stop is the serene and tranquil Thengapattinam Beach, located on the west coast of India, known for its abundant coconut groves. The mosque at the village is about 1,200 years old. Now it is time to relax and refresh at OlakkayAruvi Waterfalls, located 14 kms from Nagercoil within the Reserve Forest, a favourite haunt of trekkers! Proceed to hotel.
Day 05
Relax, have breakfast, check out and proceed to Trivandrum Airport or Nagercoil Railway Station.
